With so many events happening, it can be hard to know which events are produced by the Victoria Pride Society, and which events are produced by community members. Any event with a beside it is produced by Victoria Pride Society, all others are produced by community members. For more information on an event, please click the title.
If your group would like to have its event(s) promoted on our web site, please email Joe at joeinvictoria@shaw.ca. Please note: submissions of events for a particular month must be received 7 days prior to the start of that month; we will only be updating the calendar once per month.

May 18 - Gender Ryder Queerposium
Date: May 18
Time: 10am - 4pm
Website: www.queerposium.org
Info: Creating an inclusive, playful and safe space for queer and trans people and their allies, are the guiding themes for this spring's Queerposium, happening on Saturday, May 18th. Queerposium will coincide with the International Day against Homophobia with a day-long event starting at the New Horizons Centre in James Bay. The day will feature a morning of workshops and discussion, a hot lunch, followed by an afternoon "Queering the Streets" bike ride and performance.
"We aim to build community engagement through discussion and play in an accessible and safe space for LGBTTIQQ2SAP folk, and the people who love us," says Anna Malkin, one of the event organizers.
The day will begin with the creation of a 'community agreement' informed by 'safer spaces guidelines' (available at: http://queerposium.org/queer/home/safer-spaces-guidelines/) where participants will be engaged in positive and non-judgmental dialogue. Jeremy Jones will be presenting a workshop/discussion on Reconciliation and Decolonization followed by a same-sex dance lesson courtesy of the All Genders Queer Social Dance Learning Collective.
This is the second Queerposium to occur in the city. A previous community building event, Bussed Out!?%# was held in November 2012 and included a bus ride through Victoria, introducing participants to local LGBT haunts, which included discussions on discrimination, trans masculinities and the hidden queer communities of Victoria.
The group has a set up a Facebook and Twitter page as well as a space to purchase tickets for the event, Tickets are $15 sliding scale, although no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Queerposium organizers acknowledge that the day-long event will take place on unceded Coast and Straits Salish Territories.

July 7 - Pride Parade & Festival
Date: July 7
Info: The jewel in Victoria Pride Weeks crown is always our parade and festival. Pride Parade starts at 12 noon at Government and Pandora, and the Festival open immediate after at MacDonald Park in James Bay. Some points of interest for this year are:
Main stage will include local Victoria Artists including last year's, very popular Angela Hehr.
A kids camp is set next to an impressive 50Ft long public park; and is accompanied by another 50ft long inflatable obstacle course (and bouncy castle of course!)
Tumblebums will be providing a toddler play space for those rainbow lovers who have just gotten their dancing legs, and of course breast feeding mommies will have their very own tented space to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds.
150+ Vendors will be selling food and wares; of which over 80% are local island business owners & operators. This is in part what some think makes us unique from other Pride Festivals
A fully socked beer garden and very special performances catering to the 19+ crowd
And of course Pride House, having grown substantially over the last 4 years, will be hosting over 10 different LGBTQ supportive organizations!
Joining the main stage this year: Bananafish Dance Orchestra!
Members of the Bananafish Dance Orchestra met while studying jazz at Vancouver Island University. They combined their music education with a love of dance Music--jazz to hip-hop, reggae to soul, latin rock to ska--and grew into an on-stage powerhouse, well armed with talented soloists, percussion jams, freestyle specialists, and even trumpet on trumpet battles!
In terms of festival dates, BFDO ha s rallied crowds at the Victoria Ska Festival, Islands Folk Festival, Vancouver Island Music Festival, Kaslo Jazz Festival, Nanaimo Marine Festival, and the Rhythm on the Rock Festival. BFDO has shared the stage with Toots and the Maytals, The Skatalites, The Slackers, and many others. After releasing a self-titled disc in 2011, a second album is set to be released in the summer of 2013.
Consisting of a 3-piece bombastic horn section up front, a groovy rhythm section laying it down in the back, and a dangerously charismatic front man, you won't find a more exciting show around. If you want to dance, check out the Bananafish Dance Orchestra.
